So, what can you expect? We\u2019ll tell you <strong>what happens during pregnancy, trimester by trimester<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>First trimester<\/h2>\n<p>From the very beginning the woman\u2019s body starts to undergo changes whose purpose is to safeguard and accommodate the life that\u2019s forming inside her. There are some women who hardly notice any symptoms, while others suffer from all of them.<\/p>\n<p>The most striking thing you\u2019ll notice during this initial period are symptoms like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excessive <strong>tiredness<\/strong> together with a very great need to sleep.<\/li>\n<li>After your first missed period you may have <strong>morning sickness<\/strong>, with or without vomiting, and even dizziness.<\/li>\n<li>A heightened <strong>sense of smell<\/strong>. You\u2019ll smell everything and it will really affect you.<\/li>\n<li><strong>You\u2019ll keep needing to go to the toilet<\/strong>, as your growing uterus will be pressing on your bladder.<\/li>\n<li>The sensitivity and <strong>size of your breasts<\/strong> increases.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Changing emotional state:<\/strong> you\u2019ll notice the first mood changes as a result of hormonal ups and downs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Second trimester<\/h2>\n<p>Welcome belly! You won\u2019t be able to stop stroking and protecting your belly, so it\u2019ll start to be obvious that you\u2019re pregnant. The typical symptoms of the first trimester will gradually subside and you\u2019ll feel more full of life and energy than ever before. Make the most of it! The second trimester of pregnancy is undoubtedly the best of all. You\u2019ll now feel very much aware of what you\u2019re going through, you\u2019ll start to notice your baby\u2019s first little kicks and movements, and you\u2019ll start preparing for his or her arrival.<\/p>\n<p>Some things you should bear in mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Your gums become more sensitive,<\/strong> so it\u2019s a good time to go to the dentist.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Look after your pelvic floor!<\/strong> Talk to your midwife.<\/li>\n<li>You may notice you have a<strong> stuffy nose<\/strong>, which is common during pregnancy and stops you breathing properly. This can last until the end of pregnancy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be careful about dark spots on your skin!<\/strong> Use sunscreen whenever you go out.<\/li>\n<li>Have you started to suffer from absent-mindedness, forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating? This is quite normal; all these changes you\u2019re going through are starting to take their toll.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Third trimester<\/h2>\n<p>And then comes the day when you\u2019ve got a great big belly and you can\u2019t believe it\u2019s still going to get bigger. It\u2019s an incredible moment, but it\u2019s time to slow down!<\/p>\n<p>What can you expect?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Back ache, heartburn and a constant need to pee are very common problems at this stage.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll start to feel <strong>Braxton Hicks contractions<\/strong> because your body\u2019s getting ready for your baby\u2019s arrival!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Careful, you\u2019re at risk of getting stretch marks!<\/strong> You need to look after yourself more than ever because your skin\u2019s stretching with all its might.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rest whenever you can;<\/strong> sleeping\u2019s going to become mission impossible from now on.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your breasts are getting ready for breast feeding,<\/strong> so they\u2019ll feel more swollen and sensitive.<\/li>\n<li>As the big day approaches it\u2019s normal to feel<strong> pressure on your pelvis<\/strong>, especially once the baby\u2019s head is engaged.<\/li>\n<li>In the last month of pregnancy in particular, you\u2019ll notice an<strong> increase in vaginal discharge<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Enjoy your pregnancy!
